Before leaving Liege the morning of day ten, we were invited to lunch at the home of the Devous family. I experienced lots of interesting food while in Europe, but the I was the most unsure about my state of health when Sister Devous brought out cooked rabbit for lunch. Surprisingly, it was probably the most delicious meal I had while away from the states! It tasted just like chicken, literally.
The final evening of our vacation was spent in Brussels, Belgium. We walked through the Grand Plaza which had great shopping, ice cream, and Belgium waffles. The sight to see at the Grand Plaza is the Manneken Pis. This fountain statue is of a little boy peeing! The story behind it is that he was the son of the royal family and he got lost one evening. The whole town was looking for this little boy, and he was eventually found peeing in the middle of the town center.
It was sad to see our trip come quickly to an end. Europe was incredible, and so much fun to visit. I'm so thankful I had the opportunity to see so many amazing things and meet so many wonderful people. I have a whole new respect for missionaries. I would recommend every return missionary to take his wife to the place he served. It opened up my eyes to the difficulty and dedication required to serve a mission. It was such a great experience to explore places that mean so much to my sweet husband. I can't wait to go back someday!
