I often find myself saying, "Ellisyn, you're the best baby I've ever had!" My mom reminds me that I won't be able to say that after I have more children, but for now, I can't help it. She really is the best baby I've ever had. It's hard to imagine what Daniel and I did three months ago before Ellisyn made our family grow by two feet.
Only days after Ellisyn's two month birthday and shots, we headed to Claire's to pierce her little, ten week old ears. Daniel held her close while the deed was done, and she cried for only a few minutes. Compared to a circumcision, I think she had it pretty easy. The whole situation broke her poor daddy's heart, but I just had to remind him that "beauty is pain"! In a mall full of Christmas shoppers, I was surely labeled the meanest mom of the year, but I'm positive she'll thank me later. Plus, the little silver stud earrings add the perfect girly touch to every outfit! Who can complain about that?!
When I found out I would be the mother to a baby girl, I had nothing but hair bows, nail polish, dresses, and, obviously, earrings running through my mind. Daniel and Aunt Jess, however, were bound and determined to instill their passion and love for athletics into my predestined girly-girl. So, in support of Ellisyn's Auntie, we attended Jessica's first track meet this season. It was a family affair, and although Ellisyn didn't really show it, I have a feeling she really enjoyed her first sporting event. I'm sure there will be many, many more in her future.
After Ellisyn's first track meet experience, we headed to a nearby hotel to go swimming. The aunts, uncles, and cousins had a fabulous time wearing themselves out in the pool, but Colton and Ellisyn preferred to stay poolside.
Ellisyn is unaware at the moment, but her fan club isn't exclusive to Idaho, or even the United States. She has a whole slew of friends in France and Belgium that love her so much! There have been multiple letters, messages, emails, and Skype calls yearning to meet our baby E. She even received a huge package from Belgium filled with clothes, books, bibs, socks, and a pillow pet. My little three month old seems to be very popular with the locals, as well as foreigners.
Christmas Eve arrived with mounds of excitement. It's just so exciting to have a fresh piece of heaven to celebrate the holidays. Ellisyn spent her very first Christmas Eve dining out with Sargent's and then riding around town looking at Christmas lights with the Spicer's.
Before climbing into bed that night, I turned to Daniel and said, "The best Christmas present Ellisyn could give us would be to sleep through the night." Well, Santa or somebody heard my Christmas wish, because that baby I had been getting up with night after night slept through the whole night that Christmas Eve. I can truly say that "not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse". It was a great start to a great Christmas.
As tradition would have it, we woke up bright and early Christmas morning to have our annual pre-present breakfast at the Sargent household. It was delicious food and delightful company. We were also very, very spoiled by Santa Sargent and Santa Spicer, but the most exciting gift for mom, dad, and Ellisyn would have to be this one...
Yep, that's right, folks. A deep freezer. This couldn't have come at a better time, being as over the past three months I have turned into a milking cow of sorts. This is a gift that will definitely benefit the whole family, if you know what I mean.
Unfortunately, Ellisyn wasn't too lively during her first Christmas morning. She slept through the entire thing a the Sargent's, and then promptly slept through all of it at the Spicer's, too.
Ellisyn only woke to give a little Christmas surprise.
Which, by the way, seems to be an ongoing theme with this girl.
Despite sleeping through Christmas and ruining her Christmas outfit, she still made it out pretty well!
Once again, little Miss E. loves her two to three naps during the day and does really well during the night. There have been a handful of nights since that Christmas Even miracle that Ellisyn has slept through the night. She is such a good baby, and she is so precious when she sleeps!
It's always nice when she sleeps through the night, because it makes for some very happy mornings!
These full nights of rest have really given us all a little bit more energy during the day. I even tried my hand at making a turban headband for baby Ellisyn. It turned out pretty cute, and I can't help but smile every time I see her in it.
Although I am at Ellisyn's beck and call twenty-four/seven, she remains a complete daddy's girl. She thinks her dad is pretty cool, and, actually, I do, too.
On December 29, 2013, Ellisyn was giving a name and blessing by her dad during Sacrament Meeting in the Cedar 1st Ward. It was such a special day that we were able to share with family. It brings a mother's heart joy to hear her husband say over the microphone, "Ellisyn Joy Spicer". Ellisyn looked beautiful in her little dress, but my favorite part of her outfit had to be her Grandma Great's pearl necklace she wore. I'm sure my grandma was a worried mess when Ellisyn decided to leave heaven nearly six weeks early, but I can see the contagious grin on my grandma's face now that E is happy and healthy.
Ellisyn is so loved, and we're so glad she joined our family!
What a wonderful Holiday to be surrounded with Family! Family really is the best! What a beautiful little girl you have!! I loved her blessing dress just incredible! Congrats again! You are great parents already!!- Ps It was fun to realize that Amy is your sister in law! Small world :)
ReplyDeleteE is so cute and I love that you make her look like such a girl with her ears pierced and everything. I know she will thank you for it when she is older, just like my boys will thank us for getting them circumcised.
ReplyDeleteI got my ears pierced when I was 3 months old I'm very thankful for that because I dont remeber the pain. As for circumcision it is a choice as a parent I'm sure they will be thankful as well. Ellisyn is so cute! Some people are just rude and think they need to put there noses in others business. Love you Court!
ReplyDeleteI was searching for my GF's blog and came across your interesting one. Started reading and came to your post about having your daughter's ears pierced at two months. I'd say you were a smart mommy for doing it early and following your mommy intuition having your her ears pierced now when you can care for them. She'll thank you later. .
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing sweeter and it makes them look so feminine like a little ingénue and cherub with little studs in their ears. We did our daughter early too after consulting with our pediatrician who gave me some encouraging tips how and where to go. She said earlier was best when mommy can care for them and she will just grow up thinking they are a part of her.
She is now two and is girlie-girl. She loves changing her earrings to match her dresses, but favors pearls like her mommy. I somehow think your little girl will be following her namesake soon wearing pearls too.
Any moms want our ped's ideas, let me know.
